Achivements

Total Women and Girls with Disabilities reached between 2021-2025

Between 2021–2025, NUWODU directly reached over 12,000 women and girls with disabilities across Uganda through advocacy, leadership training, economic empowerment, SRHR education, protection initiatives, and rights-based interventions. The organization strengthened the voices and capacities of women with disabilities by supporting advocacy forums, VSLAs, human rights trainings, and community dialogue engagements.

NUWODU - Projects

HIGHLIGHTS OF ACHIEVEMENTS (LAST FIVE YEARS)

NUWODU has made significant progress in advancing the rights, inclusion, and empowerment of women and girls with disabilities across Uganda. Through sustained national advocacy, the organization has contributed to influencing both national and international policy frameworks, including engagements related to CEDAW, CRPD, UPR, and GDS. NUWODU has also successfully implemented several donor-funded projects aimed at improving the livelihoods of women with disabilities through skills development, mentorship, enterprise support, and community empowerment initiatives.

Through advocacy, inclusion, and empowerment, women with disabilities continue to shape stronger and more inclusive communities.

Strengthened national advocacy for the rights and inclusion of women and girls with disabilities in Uganda.
Influenced international policies: CEDAW, CRPD, UPR, GDS
Successfully implemented multiple donor-funded projects.
Improved livelihoods and empowerment of women with disabilities through skills development, mentorship, and enterprise support.
Enhanced participation of women and girls with disabilities in decision-making processes at community, district and national levels.
Influenced inclusion of disability perspectives in key government programmes and policies, including engagement with the Parish Development Model (PDM), GROW etc.
Strengthened partnerships with government institutions, development partners, OPDs, and women’s rights organizations.
Expanded grassroots structures and community-based leadership networks for women with disabilities across multiple regions (membership).
